We took a short break at Gibbons Pass. This pass was named after the U.S. Army colonel who was in command of the troops that followed the fleeing Nez Perce Indian Tribe through this area in early August of 1877. Seventy-one years earlier, after the Lewis & Clark Expedition separated to explore alternate routes on their return trip from the Pacific Ocean, Clark led a group over this pass on July 6th, 1806.
