This is 1929 Model ‘A’ Ford with a 4-cylinder ‘flathead’ engine and a displacement of 200.5 cubic inches. Original brake horsepower was 40 at 2200 rpm. Typical top speed for a Model ‘A’ was around 65 mph and you could buy a new Roadster for $385.00. The “Riley Special” is built on a 1929 Model ‘A’ chassis, which has been “Z”d to lower it 4” for better handling. The engine is a ‘B’ block. An early (1932-33) ‘Riley-Racing 4-port ’ head and dual Stromberg 81 carburetors have been added to improve horsepower and increase the top speed to about 100 m.p.h. A new steel body was fabricated in 1999. In addition, five-point seatbelts, hydraulic brakes, fuel cell and a detachable roll bar were added for safety purposes. #29 competes in the “Pre-War” class in vintage races at Road America in Elkhart Lake Wisconsin, Blackhawk Farms in Beloit, Illinois, Roebling Road in Savannah, Georgia and Mid-Ohio Raceway in Mansfield, Ohio. The #29 Speedster also competes in F.A.S.T. hill climbs in the southeast.
