Previous Speedster Next Speedster

I built this Speedster in 2000. It was the first I ever attempted. It runs a '26 engine with Aluminun pistons, a Chaffin Cam, no magnets on the flywheel, 12 volt electrical system, Hitachi 12 volt alternator, Stromberg 81 downdraft carb, electric fuel pump at the tank in the rear, "Z" Head, Distributor, and a Corvair steering box. The car also has a split front radius rod, and I added front and rear shocks this last year. The chassis has been lowered, and the rest is what you see in the photos. These pics were taken when I built the car, and they don't show the windshield it now has.

I had a bit of an accident in the cars first outing up near Bellingham in May 2000. I got a little out of shape in a torrential downpour and put the car end over upside down in a ditch. (Thank God for Seat Belts, they saved the day). Strange as it may seem, the car only had superficial damage and is now entirely rebuilt.

My Car number is 596. That was also the Hull Number of the ship I was on in the Navy during Korea........USS SHIELDS (DD-596)
