Jim Patterson was the 1996 Vern Storey Memorial Trophy Recipient
I purchased # 727 from Don & Judi Rohrer from Spokane in 1999. It is a 1927 Model T with a Nash overdrive between the T transmission and the Model A rearend. At the time I bought it, it had orange '35 Ford wheels and dual early Ford V-8 carbs. In 2001, I made several modifications to the car.
I swapped the wheels out for black Model A 21" wheels and opened up the trunk deck (which is a '48 Ford pickup hood) with metalwork help from Tom Shuck of Kennewick, WA. He built a hinged deck lid and also installed a spare tire carrier with a tire well built into the hinged deck lid. In addition to adding the spare tire carrier, this made it a much more functional trunk by making it accessible to get into and it also serves as somewhat of a rollbar should it ever be needed. I also added fenders to all four wheels, which has proved to be a challenge to keep them from breaking off from excessive vibration.
In the spring of 2002, I swapped out the dual V-8 carbs for a Model A intake and exhaust manifold with a Model B carbureator to get it to the simpler pre-'34 era vintage that we strive for in the speedster club. I was also interested in getting the car to look more antique rather than a hot rod. The photo's showing the black wheels with fenders and the new deck lid with spare tire carrier show the most recent modifications.
