Ray Fiorisi and Lana Brewer’s 1928 Model A Great Racer from Sonoma, CA is a magnet for on lookers even on Skalkaho Pass

An indispensable part of every speedster run, and usually goes with out notice, except for those that need them, are the “Trouble Truck” drivers.  Manned by Flint, Rattler, and Lew Condon they picked up broken speedsters and lowlanders all through the five days of this great event.
But, the “Real Trophy” that is handed out every Labor Day Speedster Run is the Vern Storey Memorial Trophy.  The trophy symbolizes the fine characteristics of Vern like: a desire to finish, safety, humor, willingness to help and generally promoting the spirit of speedsters found in one of the participants.  This award is considered the “Top Prize” in the NWVS Club.  Past winners exhibit some, or all, or even more than the above attributes, not by popularity, but because of what they bring to this sport.  They are judged by their peers to be what is good about what we do.  This year’s winner was no exception.  Rae Ann Murray of Camano Island, WA was picked as only the 2nd female recipient.  Despite her challenges, Rae Ann exhibits all the above characteristics and was an easy choice.  She especially thanked the efforts of Art and Frank Reichlin, at the trophy presentation, for building a speedster car body that accommodates her needs yet remains faithful to the hobby.  It would not be possible for her to participate as fully as she does without their help.
Our thanks to Carol and Reed Olsen for hosting this great event and giving us a chance to come on over to their house and enjoy our speedsters and fellowship, Montana style.  Next up is Memorial Weekend ’03 in the Puget Sound area and Labor Day ’03 in Oregon.
Respectfully Submitted,

Mad Max Murray
