1939 Lagonda V12 Rapide Tulipwood

The great W.O. Bentley joined Lagonda in 1935 and designed the the V12. It was the first enclosed car to exceed 100 miles in an hour. There were Nine V12 Rapides built.   Eight V12s had light weight aluminum boat tail bodies.  It won its class and finished 3rd & 4th overall at LeMans. This one was fitted with a very light weight wood body. The planks are individually shaped. They are attached with brass rivets.  There is no better example of a wood body.  Pictures courtesy of RM Auctions who sold the car in Sept of 2002.
