Rear End -- Available Ratios & Lowering |
Available Gear Ratios |
|
The Stock Model A Rear End Ratio is
3.78:1. This is what I have
Also available are 3.54:1 and 3.27:1. There were 4.11:1 made, but they are hard to find. |
|
There are at least 7 ways to lower a Speedster Rear End : | |
1. New Front Spring shaped with less rise -- Available from Speedway Motors. 2. Reversed Spring Ends -- Available from Speedway Motors 3. ReShaped Rear Cross Member 4. Suicide Z bracket to hang spring above and behind Rear Cross Member 5. Spring Hangers Low Behind Rear Axle 6. Drop Frame in front or Rear Cross Member 7. Use a Model T rear spring. Because of the eye-to-eye width is narrower, this effectively drops the rear crossmember w/o even re-rolling the spring eyes. There is another inch to be gained by reversing the eyes. Northwest Vintage Speedsters has a good technical paper on Lowering Your Speedster. |
