How Low A Skirt ?

The Skirt hangs from the Top of the Frame down toward the Ground

The Skirt should hang 6" to 10" below the Top of the Frame.  The exact distance should be an even multiple of 7/8" so the bottom strip will be a whole strip. Designs should assume a skirt of 10-1/2" (12 strips or 84/8") The skirt can easily be trimmed higher at a later date.

Skirts must be relieved for axles and radius rods.   On Stock Model A's the Skirt  may need to be relieved for the Rear Frame Cross Member, the Rear Radius Rods, the Steering Shaft and any  Step(s).  The Rear the top of the Frame is 10-1/4" above the center of the Rear Axle and 6-1/2" above the Front wheel centers.... so the frame slopes 3-3/4" over the wheelbase.... of course this changes if one or both ends are lowered.

The Bottom of Skirt Parallels the top of the Frame. There are 2 basic designs :  The bottom of the Skirt parallels the top of the Frame as on the speedsters above or the bottom of the Skirt parallels the Ground. The strips parallel the bottom of the Skirt. I believe the bottom of the skirt should parallel the Frame. The top of the body parallels the frame. With all the strips, I think this parallelism will look best. Also this choice allows the car to be lowered later without messing up the design.

The Skirt stops at the Firewall.  The engine compartment is open to dissipate heat. I cannot see how to build a strip built skirt on just the frame that will look OK.  Anyway, the skirt can be added later if a way to build it becomes obvious.
