The First Step is Careful Measurements |
The successful Automotive Designer takes Careful Measurements. I started by building a dimensionally correct model of the wheels, frame, radiator, gear shift, steering wheel, and located the seat. I only worked with half the car since the other half could be created later with the mirror command. I simplified all the shapes except the radiator. The important thing was to be sure that the frame or steering wheel didn't poke through the body. A detailed model would be great, but I didn't want to take the time to do it and couldn't find a Model A Ford model to buy. I did find a Model T, but I didn't investigate how good a model it was. Notice that this is the chassis after I made all the modifications : lowered steering wheel, lowered radiator moved forward, Borg Warner T5 transmission which moved the gear shift location. see Chassis In Rhino the Chassis is a horizontal line. Lowering the front or rear is as simple as moving the wheels and axles. Lowering decisions can come last. To understand the Lowering Mechanical issues see Chassis Front End and Chassis Rear End. |
After the Chassis Model is created, the Body can be Shaped. This means all the decisions that affect chassis dimensions have to be made.... the chassis may have to be mostly assembled to get some of the dimensions. Most Boat Tail Speedsters are narrowed. Before going further you should consider Narrowing the Speedster. |
