Bottom Stem |

The first step in building the Bottom Rear is building the stem (to borrow a boat building term). I made the stem 4" wide and that was a mistake. 2" would have been plenty and the narrower stem would have been a lot easier to shape. I made the stem by laminating together 4 pieces of 5/16" thick straight grained old growth fir with slow cure epoxy. I left this to dry 48 hours to be sure the stem would hold its shape. Then I shaped it as pictured below. |
